    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Holdrege Area Chamber of Commerce seeks a part-time summer photography/marketing intern to capture visual stories to create marketing material to promote our community, its attractions, and our members.  With assistance, the intern will be responsible for generating story ideas and working with members of the community to showcase our people, businesses, events and community.  The intern should be able to capture compelling, candid shots, as well as, well-composed and/or creative staged/still photos. In addition, the intern will write coordinating human interest/profile pieces around 500 words each with photos for promotional materials and evergreen content.

     

    Photos and associated stories will be used for print and digital publication, and may be shared with the Phelps County Community Foundation, The Phelps County Development Corporation, Visit 37 visitors’ committee, and both the city and county governments. The position has the possibility of extending past the completion date.  

     

    PROVIDED

    • Single room apartment accommodation (June & July)

    • Travel stipend for gas

    • Use of Canon 90D EOS with 18-55mm and 50mm lenses (optional)

    • Dedicated office space at the Holdrege Area Chamber of Commerce

    • Invitations to local social events

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Find, capture and create stories (photographic, video, written, and/or digital) about the people, businesses, members and attractions in Holdrege/Phelps County, Nebraska.

    • Conduct minimal photo editing according to the National Press Photographers’ Association standards (with exception for creative/artistic pieces)

    • Write profile pieces that highlight positive aspects of living, working and playing in Holdrege/Phelps County, Nebraska.  The pieces will be used for membership recruitment, community fundraising, asset-based community development, and tourism.

    • Edit and maintain organization of digital assets including photographs, written stories or videos.

    • Assist with customers while in the office.

    ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

    • Develop and create public relations materials to support the Holdrege Area Chamber and community development.

    • Contribute ideas to recruiting and retaining 18-34 year olds to our community.

    • Networking with both small business and international businesses owners/CEOs/managers

    • Extension of the internship

    • Leadership and development mentorship 

    • Other office duties as assigned

     REQUESTED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Some college coursework in photography, journalism, marketing, digital storytelling and/or related fields is preferred.  Practical experience in those areas will also be accepted.

    • Strong competency in manual-exposure digital photography, including difficult lighting scenarios. 

    • Excellent social, oral and written communication skills 

    • Ability to discover captivating stories from everyday situations

    • Strong ability to quickly sort and edit photos, preferably in Photoshop and/or Lightroom

    • Experience with computers, Google Workspaces, and other office equipment.

    • Experience with graphic design, layout, web design or other artistic skills-based programs is encouraged, but not required.
