The Don Sjogren Community YMCA is excited to welcome Trevor Klingelhoefer as its new Sports Director. Trevor officially began his role on Monday, April 6, and will help lead and grow youth sports programming at the YMCA.
The Don Sjogren Community YMCA has served the Holdrege community for more than 20 years, focusing on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. In his new role, Trevor will oversee sports programming while helping create positive experiences for youth, families, and community members. Trevor brings both educational and coaching experience to the position. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a bachelor's degree in Sports Management and has gained leadership experience through coaching baseball and softball at Kearney High School.
"One of my biggest strengths is my ability to connect with people and build strong relationships," said Klingelhoefer. "Through coaching, I've learned how to work effectively with different personalities and age groups while creating a positive and encouraging environment. I pride myself on being dependable, energetic, and willing to step in whenever needed."
Trevor also shared that his own experiences growing up in YMCA sports helped shape his passion for youth development and community involvement. "Playing YMCA sports helped me develop teamwork, discipline, and confidence while also showing me the importance of community involvement," he said. "Those experiences gave me a positive environment to learn and grow, which is one of the reasons I value the YMCA's mission so much today."
As Sports Director, Trevor is especially excited about the opportunity to serve local youth and families. "What excites me most about serving the community through the YMCA is the opportunity to positively impact youth and families," Klingelhoefer said. "I enjoy helping people grow, feel included, and build confidence, whether through sports, mentorship, or community programs."
Joel Pelster, Branch Executive Director of the Don Sjogren Community YMCA, said Trevor's energy and passion have already made a strong impression. "Trevor is really motivated and wants to learn as much as possible about what it takes to run multiple sports programs from start to finish," said Joel. "His knowledge of sports and scheduling has really shown this first month, and he does such a great job interacting with co-workers, members, and program participants. I can already see his head spinning with lots of new ideas he can bring to the Y!"
Trevor shared that this opportunity felt like the perfect next step because it combines his passions for leadership, teamwork, mentorship, and community involvement. "My coaching experiences and educational background have prepared me to contribute in a meaningful way," he said. "I'm excited for the opportunity to continue growing while helping serve the community of Holdrege through the YMCA."
