Haunted Holdrege Brings Local History, Architecture, and Spooky Stories to Life in Iron Horse Arts District

Holdrege, Neb. – This October, the Iron Horse Arts District invites the community to step into the shadows of downtown Holdrege for the first-ever Haunted Holdrege Walking Tour. Guests will explore historic buildings and streets while hearing tales of hauntings, local legends, and eerie encounters drawn from Holdrege’s rich history.

Tours will be offered on Saturday, October 18, at 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Each tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and is limited to 16-20 people.

The guided walk will feature four historic stops—the Opera House, Real Estate Connection, Holdrege Sun Theater & Event Venue, and Mission Ave Thrift—where guests will hear historical stories and fascinating facts about the people and places that shaped downtown Holdrege while learning about the finer architectural details of the buildings.

Tickets are $15 per person (discounts are available for groups of 10 or more) and are available now at ironhorsedistrict.org/projects/haunted-holdrege. Space is limited, and it is strongly recommended to purchase tickets in advance.

“Haunted Holdrege combines local history and architecture, community storytelling, and just the right touch of spooky fun,” said Cassie Ehrenberg, Executive Director of the Iron Horse Arts District. “It’s a chance to experience downtown in a whole new way—whether you’re a lifelong resident or a first-time visitor.”

The tours will start at the Holdrege Sun Theater & Event Venue at 412 West Ave., where participants will get a sneak peek at the theater’s renovation. Post-tour drink and entertainment specials will be offered to tour participants from various Holdrege businesses.

Guests should note that the tour involves walking between locations, uneven sidewalks, and multiple flights of stairs (no elevators) in historic buildings in low-light conditions. Phone flashlights can be used; traditional flashlights will be provided if needed.
