Holdrege Area Public Library Welcomes UNK’s Jamila Bajelan for Nebraska Biodiversity Program

Holdrege, NE — The Holdrege Area Public Library is excited to welcome Jamila Bajelan from the University of Nebraska at Kearney for an engaging and educational program exploring Nebraska’s rich biodiversity. This presentation will be the first of two talks and will focus on Nebraska mammals.

The program will take place on Saturday January 31st at 1:00 pm at the Holdrege Area Public Library and is open to all ages (Children must be accompanied by an adult)

Jamila Bajelan currently works at the University of Nebraska at Kearney as an Online Academic Program Advisor. She holds an educational background in biology and public communication and has completed coursework in areas such as mammalogy and herpetology, which sparked her passion for Nebraska’s native wildlife.

For the past four years, Bajelan has led week-long summer camps focused on Nebraska animals—including mammals, reptiles, insects, fish, and birds—through programs such as the UNK Loper Launch Enrichment Camps and local elementary summer programs. This summer, she will be leading a camp titled Creature Catchers for students entering third and fourth grade. She has also previously shared her knowledge with the community through a turtle presentation at the Wilson Public Library.

Bajelan enjoys helping people gain a new appreciation for Nebraska animals, especially those they may encounter in their own backyards. Her presentation will highlight the diversity of mammals found throughout the state and encourage curiosity and connection with local wildlife.
