Iron Horse Arts District Announces February Gallery & March Call for Art

Holdrege, Neb. — The Iron Horse Arts District is pleased to present its February Pop-Up Art Gallery, featuring the work of local artists Sherry McClymont and Carol Kayton, on display at the Holdrege Area Public Library from February 3–27. The public is invited to an artist reception on Thursday, February 12 from 5–7 p.m., where they can meet the artists and learn more about their pieces.

McClymont and Kayton bring unique creative voices to this month’s exhibition. McClymont’s work explores organic transformation and found natural materials, while Kayton’s pieces reflect a lifelong engagement with painting and personal expression rooted in deep community ties. Their work invites reflection and connection, showcasing the diversity of artistic approaches in our region.

“Sherry and Carol each bring a unique vision to their work,” said Rebecca Anderson, President of the Iron Horse Arts District Board of Directors. “We’re thrilled to give our community a chance to experience their creativity up close.”

As we celebrate these accomplished visual artists in February, the Iron Horse Arts District is also preparing for an exciting March Call for Artwork inspired by Bits, a new poetry collection by featured artist Andrea Skiles. Skiles’ work explores the quiet, fragmented moments that make up everyday life — from the moon, messes, and laundry to painting, making, insomnia, and the beauty found in ordinary experiences.

For the March exhibition, the Iron Horse Arts District invites visual artists to submit work that interprets, responds to, or is inspired by these themes. Submissions should reflect the emotional tone, imagery, or ideas found in Bits, rather than serve as literal illustrations of the poems. Artists of all visual mediums are encouraged to participate, including painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, fiber, and more. While Skiles will be the featured artist through a live poetry reading and literary programming, the gallery exhibition will showcase the creative responses of visual artists, creating a dialogue between poetry and art.

“This combination of poetry and visual art offers an exciting opportunity for both artists and audiences to explore how everyday life can inspire creativity,” said Cassie Ehrenberg, Executive Director of the Iron Horse Arts District. “We are thrilled to feature such talented artists this winter and look forward to seeing how our community’s visual artists interpret the work of Andrea Skiles in March.”

The March Call for Artwork submission details and deadlines can be found on our website at https://ironhorsedistrict.org/events/march-call-for-art-bits. The March Pop-Up Art Gallery is free and open to the public during library hours, and visitors are encouraged to attend the March 12 reception and poetry reading, from 5-7 p.m,  to meet Andrea and the selected visual artists, enjoy light refreshments, and support local creativity.
