Iron Horse Arts District Announces Packed Late-Summer Lineup
Two Gallery Exhibits, a Live Concert, and the Mini Mural Showcase headline a busy season of programming in downtown Holdrege
HOLDREGE, Neb. — The Iron Horse Arts District is inviting the community to a season of art, music, and celebration this August and September, with multiple events bringing regional and nationally recognized artists to downtown Holdrege. From a public mural showcase to an intimate evening with acclaimed sculptor George Lundeen, the lineup offers something for every art lover and every budget.
Mini Mural Showcase: Unveiling Reception and Auction
The Iron Horse Arts District will unveil its inaugural Mini Mural Showcase (featuring original 4' x 3' works from 10 regional artists) with a public reception on the Phelps County Courthouse Lawn on Friday, July 31 at 5:30 p.m. The murals, created by artists including Phelps County’s own Brandy Edgren, Cindy Huyser, Holly Anderson, Jeremy Hansen, Mona Peterson, Nancy Wiese, and Sherry McClymont, alongside artists from Papillion (Alice Swartz), Omaha (Daniel Castaneda aka Sedra D), and Aurora (Gabrielle Brosman), will remain on public display through mid-September. During this time, an online auction will be made available for bidding on the mini murals. On Friday, September 18 the pieces will move indoors to the Iron Horse Art Gallery for a live auction, with proceeds for each piece split evenly between the artist and the Arts District. Gregory Yochum Pop-Up Art Gallery and Artist Reception
Nebraska artist and educator Gregory Yochum will be the Arts District's featured Pop-Up Gallery artist throughout August, with a reception open to the public on Thursday, August 13 from 5-7
p.m. at Lost Way Brewery (614 3rd Ave, Holdrege). Yochum, who holds a BAE from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and an MFA from Fort Hays State University, is known for dramatic, high-contrast portraiture that blends sacred and pop-culture imagery with street-art techniques. Light refreshments will be served, with beer, seltzer, and other beverages available for purchase. If you can’t make the reception the artwork will be on display throughout August during regular hours at Lost Way Brewery. An Evening with George Lundeen
Holdrege native and internationally recognized bronze sculptor George Lundeen returns home for an exclusive, ticketed evening on Friday, August 28 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Iron Horse Art Gallery. Lundeen, whose narrative bronze work is admired for its warmth and lifelike character, trained at the Academia de Belle Arti in Florence, Italy as a Fulbright-Hayes Scholar and holds degrees from the University of Illinois and Hastings College. The evening, sponsored in part by the Holdrege High School Class of 1966, includes hors d'oeuvres, a presentation by the artist, and a showcase of his sculptures; wine will be available for purchase. Tickets are $25, available through Eventbrite or in person at the Iron Horse Art Gallery. Select pieces from Lundeen's body of work will remain on view at the gallery through mid-September. Flyover Concert Series: Tanner Sovereign & Jaden Schumacher LIVE The Flyover Concert Series begins on Saturday, August 29 with a live outdoor performance by Tanner Sovereign and Jaden Schumacher on JB's Outdoor Stage (302 East Avenue, Holdrege). Doors open at 7 p.m., with premium parking for $10, with music starting at 8 p.m. and running until 11 p.m. Tickets are $10 cash at the door; attendees are encouraged to arrive early and bring a lawn chair. Capacity is limited to 300 people. JB's Sports Bar & Grill will serve supper until 9 p.m. and appetizers from 9-10 p.m. In case of rain, the concert will move inside JB's. The concert is made possible through support from the Sherwood Foundation, Ag Service Associates, JB's Sports Bar & Grill, Fader Entertainment, BD, and Gray Law Firm.
