Iron Horse Arts District Presents Kip & Kent Stephens in April Pop-Up Art Gallery
HOLDREGE, Neb. — The Iron Horse Arts District's Pop-Up Art Gallery kicks off April with a show rooted in hometown pride and a shared love of painting. Featured artists Kip and Kent Stephens are brothers, both Holdrege High School alumni, and both painters — though their roads to the canvas could hardly look more different.
Their work will be on view throughout the month of April starting April 3 at Lost Way Brewery, 614 3rd Ave., Holdrege, with an opening reception on Wednesday, April 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
About the Artists
Kip Stephens, a 1994 HHS graduate, has spent the past 29 years as an art instructor — and in the process, never stopped making art of his own. He works primarily in watercolor, painting the landscapes and everyday scenes that most people walk past without a second glance. Kip describes himself as an "everyday artist," and wears the label proudly: his work finds beauty in the ordinary and invites viewers to slow down and look again.
Kent Stephens, a 1989 HHS graduate, followed a path that leads through a university laboratory rather than an art room. He holds an MS in Physical Chemistry from the University of Colorado at Denver and works as a Senior Technology Manager in the commercial explosives industry. Outside the lab, he paints — acrylics and watercolors both — gravitating toward natural scenery with the same analytical curiosity that drives his scientific work. For Kent, the studio is where precision gives way to freedom.
Together, the brothers offer visitors two distinct visions shaped by the same hometown — and a reminder that creativity has a way of finding people, no matter where life leads.
