Meals on Wheels Volunteers Honored

HOLDREGE – Meals on Wheels volunteers were celebrated at a recent luncheon at the Spirit of Grace Church. Pastor Murray Jones, president of the Meals on Wheels board, led the group in prayer before attendees enjoyed a lunch prepared and served by Spirit of Grace volunteers.
Holdrege Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver hot, nutritious meals to the doors of between 35-40 Holdrege residents five days a week. Holdrege Memorial Homes (HMH) dietary staff prepare the meals, and volunteers pick up meals at HMH.  The service is another way that Holdrege Memorial Homes, in partnership with Meals on Wheels volunteers, continues to serve aging individuals, patients recovering from surgery, or those in need of a little extra care in our community.

“Holdrege Homes is happy to provide healthy balanced meals that meet dietary needs,” HMH Dietary Director Brandy Johnson said. “This program reduces the risk of malnutrition among the elderly, reduces isolation by providing regular contact with volunteers, and offers peace of mind to families or caregivers.”
Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 11 a.m.-noon with the exception of holidays. The cost is just $6.40 for a meal that includes a meat, potato, vegetables, salad and a dessert. Meals on Wheels always welcomes new volunteers. The time requirement is just once or twice a month, and it takes 30-45 minutes to deliver the meals. Meals on Wheels also encourages groups as volunteers. If you would like to volunteer as an individual or group, please contact Jeanne Bergsten at 308-991-1462.
